Perraudin Architecture Studio — 2024 National Architecture Grand Prix

A free hand for a committed approach

Following Pierre-Louis Faloci in 2022 and Atelier Philippe Prost in 2024, it is now the turn of Architecture Perraudin to be given carte blanche at the Cité. Renowned for its expertise in sustainable construction, the practice maintains that architecture is not merely an act, but a way of inhabiting the world. In a world dominated by speed and abstraction, the aim is to rediscover the presence of the tangible, the slowness of the craft and the precision of the gesture.

Building sustainably, with patience and a human touch

Founded in 2017 by Gilles Perraudin and Jean-Manuel Perraudin, the practice is part of an approach that has been in place for over half a century: building sustainably using local resources, in the service of the common good. Building on a tradition of craftsmanship, it champions a patient and humanistic approach to architecture, where beauty arises from structural rigour, the clarity of volumes and the serenity of the spaces.

Architecture rooted in its local area

With a keen eye for the land, climate and local customs, the practice seeks to reconnect with the lost thread of place-based architecture. For the practice, stone, earth and wood are not materials to be dominated, but to be understood. This focus on materials fosters a sense of freedom: that of a measured, sustainable and authentic approach to building, giving rise to architecture that is understated, welcoming and vibrant.

An exhibition to illustrate the process

Eight projects carried out in France, Romania and Senegal, illustrated by photographs, sketches and graphic materials, will be presented at the Cité to highlight the studio’s philosophy: building to make people happy. The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication of a book and the inaugural lecture at the École de Chaillot, offering visitors the chance to delve into the heart of this approach, where rigour and humanity come together.

The National Architecture Grand Prix honours an architect or a team of architects for their body of work. This prize, awarded every two years by the Ministry of Culture, provides an opportunity to recognise and raise awareness of an architect’s exemplary approach.
