Tsuyoshi Tane
Installation – An Archaeology of the Future
This installation, within the gallery of modern and contemporary architecture, illustrates the architect’s method: digging into the memory of places in search of what has been forgotten or erased.

Tsuyoshi Tane (born 1979), an architect based in Paris, is the founder of ATTA – Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects.
His architectural creations are deeply rooted in the memory of places. Each project follows an archaeological approach, digging into the site’s memory in search of a forgotten history, used as a tool for the future. This method radically questions the impact of contemporary architecture today. Tane distances himself from the futurist movement to create buildings that are sensibly anchored yet innovative.
On the occasion of his donation to the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine of a model of the Estonian National Museum (Eesti Rahva Muuseum), a history and ethnography museum designed by DGT – Dorell.Ghotmeh.Tane / Architects while he collaborated with Dan Dorell (born 1973) and Lina Ghotmeh (born 1980) from 2006 to 2016, Tsuyoshi Tane exhibits a collection of models and objects illustrating his creative research approach, entitled Archaeology of the Future.
The exhibition’s scenography unfolds around three remarkable projects:
- The Estonian National Museum, built in 2016 on a former Soviet airfield in Tartu, symbolizing Estonia’s regained independence and takeoff.
- The museum space of the Al Thani Collection at the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris (8th arrondissement), completed in 2021, which showcases one of the world’s most important private collections by reinterpreting the rococo style of the historic monument that houses it.
- The Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art in Japan, completed in 2020 in Japan’s oldest cider house. The transformation of this brick building ensures a “continuous memory” between the site’s history and its cultural future.
